Honor 9 Is Launched For Pre-Order

Quick on the heels of the Honor 8 Pro, an April 2017 release, Honor are looking to deliver their flagship offering, and spiritual successor to the Honor 8, the Honor 9 on 27th June 2017.

Honor 9

The Honor 9 won’t be the flagship killer that the new OnePlus 5 boasts to be (see the review on that one soon) but it will instead be an iterative upgrade on last years Honor 8 model. The Honor 9 will very much follow in the footsteps of the annual releases, being an upper mid-range device with compelling statistics and a compelling price for the digital natives.

Specs – Honor 9

  • Display: 5.15″ 1080p FHD 2.5D glass
  • CPU/RAM: Kirin 960 Octa-core (4 x 2.45Ghz + 4 x 1.8Ghz) with 4GB RAM
  • Storage: 64GB + microSD card expansion
  • Software: Android 7.0 + EMUI 5.1
  • Camera: Dual lens camera – 12MP RGB + 20 MP monochrome lenses, phase detection autofocus, optical zoom and dual-LED flash.
    • Capable of 4K video recording at 30fps
  • Battery: 3200 mAh
  • Features: Dual nano SIM card/Single SIM + microSD card, Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 3.5 audio jack, front facing fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C

As we said, an iterative bump from the Honor 8 with a slightly bigger battery, the chipset from the Honor 8 Pro ported, and the latest version of EMUI. The biggest change here is set to be the optical package, which is almost a carbon copy of the Huawei P10’s successful solution. Check out Dom’s review of the Huawei P10 for more information on that setup and how it delivers great shots!

Design – Honor 9

Design wise, the Honor 9 will take more from the Honor 8 with the a glass sandwich chassis returning, however the fingerprint scanner will be moved to the front, presumably to accommodate some of the dual camera internals. This might anger some who love the rear facing fingerprint scanner, but at this price, few will be too agitated.

Honor 9

The Honor 9 will launch with a few colour options also with the Glacier Grey, Sapphire Blue and Midnight Black the names chosen this time around. You can see some images of the Sapphire Blue model below:

Camera – Honor 9

With the Huawei P10 having such great reviews for the camera setup, it’s clear to see why Honor opted to borrow from their parent company a little in this department. We expect to see some great shots from the 12MP RGB lens, with vibrant colours as can be seen from the shots below, as well as excellent low light and accented shots from augmented by the 20MP monochrome lens.

Price & Availability – Honor 9

If you’re reading this on the 27th June, you’re in luck. You can pre-order the “Sapphire Blue” variant immediately from the vMall and Amazon for the competitive price of £379.99.

It’s also worth noting that the Honor 9 will be available on contract with Three UK moving forward, but pricing and availability is still pending on that.
