If you want to save some precious money in the run up to Christmas, Apple have updated their Refurbished Store with a refurb iPhone option now available. Rejoice!
Apple previously offered refurbished Macs, accessories, iPads and iPods in their store. A recent store update, highlighted by MacRumours, suggests the Cupertino giant has added refurbished iPhones to that list. That’s not all, according to the descriptions, each product will come with brand new batteries and a new outer shell.
Currently Apple are only stocking iPhone 6S and 6S Plus models in a range of configurations.
There won’t be huge savings on offer here. Purchasing a brand new iPhone 6S Plus 64GB model will set you back around $679, the refurb unit will come in a $90 cheaper at $589. Not too shabby but certainly not a huge saving.
Never before have Apple allowed the purchase of refurbished iPhones from their own store. Consumers wishing to find the products cheaper have previously had to settle for carrier contracts or trawl various classified forums/sites for used products.
By delivering this option, consumers can not only ensure that they are buying from a reputable source, but they are also greeted with a new battery, new outer shell ensuring no damage, as well as a fully tested device. There’s even a one year warranty included. On top of that, well you save a bit of cash too!
Unfortunately there is no word as to whether the UK Apple Refurb store will be adopting the same policy of selling iPhones, with them still only dealing in other Apple products. We hope this rolls out in the UK and we’ll be keeping a close eye out for savings where they can be found!
In the meantime, if you want to get on the Refurb iPhone train, you can always look to the likes of Argos who sell refurbished iPhones in the UK offering discounts.
Do you think this is a good idea, or are Apple potentially shooting themselves in the foot, with many already suggesting that the step from iPhone 6S to 7 is relatively small? Let us know in the comments below.
